Spaniard Amancio Ortaga was born in 1936 in Busdongo de Arbás, Spain. He grew up in a quiet environment. He dropped out of school to work in a clothing store to support his family. This entry into the clothing industry was full of ideas and strong motivation. However, he probably never imagined at the time that he would one day become the creator of a fashion empire and a multi-billionaire.
In 1963, Ortaga opened his first own store. A small business in which his brother, sister-in-law, and his then-wife helped out. Since his wife was an accomplished seamstress, this was also a productive advantage. They made and sold evening gowns. The insights into the fashion industry at the time inspired Amancio Ortaga. He wanted to do better than the competition. Fashion that was currently popular wasn't produced and distributed quickly enough. Well-known, small sewing lines in the area supported his vision. Ortega developed into a quality fanatic. From among the numerous fabric samples, he could identify the best. He could identify what was popular and produce his own version with quality characteristics. The goods reached the store quickly – at affordable prices. Far from any seasonal trade and lengthy pre-orders. He felt unconcerned by accusations of plagiarism and allegations that he was simply copying fashion.
Over the decades, Amancio Ortaga established over 6,000 retail outlets in over 80 countries, primarily selling the private labels and labels he founded. These include brands such as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull & Bear, and Bershka. He also developed a distribution and logistics network. He first conquered the Spanish market and then expanded throughout Europe. Global market presence followed.
